After years of doing one form of art or another- painting, photography, weaving and oriental rug restoration, to name a few- I discovered the art of felt making. From the very first I felt at home in the medium. The desire to expand my color possibilities brought me to the practice of hand-dyeing wool roving, wool prefelt and silk.
Wet and nuno felt techniques are used to create my one of a kind accessories. As the tactile qualities of a piece are very important to me, I like using very soft fibers which include superfine merino wool, blue faced leicester wool, alpaca, baby alpaca, and tussah and bombyx silk. I want to make work that I would enjoy having on my own body.
In design, I am inspired by the simple elegance of African and Japanese textiles.
One of the things that is wonderful about creating wearable art is that I get to see my work on friends and happy customers and to hear from them the responses they get when wearing one of my shawls, scarves or hats. When my pieces are worn, I feel like they are given a second life in the larger world.
